Möhrle Happ Luther is advising the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on a proposal to expand the nomenclature of the Harmonized System of the World Customs Organization.
The Gates Foundation is one of the world's largest non-profit organizations. One of its goals is to reduce global micronutrient deficiencies with the help of fortified foods. The amendment to the HS nomenclature is intended to simplify processes in the transport of goods and make goods more traceable.
The Indirect Tax practice group is supporting and assisting the Gates Foundation in this project with its expertise in customs and international law.
"An amendment to the HS nomenclature will make the distribution of micronutrients for staple foods more transparent globally. The collection of data by the customs authorities will help to ensure that needed nutrients are reaching developing countries. We look forward to supporting the Gates Foundation with a contribution to this important project," says Marko Uhl, customs law expert and partner at Möhrle Happ Luther.
